Head Coach | Andy Tunnicliffe
Andy Tunnicliffe arrived at Concordia on March of 2019, becoming the 10th head coach in program history.
Entering his fifth season as head coach of the women's soccer program, Tunnicliffe is the longest tenured coach in program history. Priding himself on helping student-athletes on and off the pitch, Tunnicliffe and the womens soccer team have had one of the highest accumulative GPAs as a team on campus and in the American Southwest Conference.
In his first year at Concordia, Tunnicliffe earned his first CTX coaching win with a 4-2 defeat of East Texas Baptist on Sept. 26, 2019. After leading Concordia to a playoff birth, the Tornados' season came to a close in the ASC Tournament quarterfinals.
In the 2020-21 season, four Tornados earned All-ASC honors as Paricia Heckendorn, Kallie Krenz, Emily Mowrer, and Elizabeth Jones, all freshman, were named ASC honorable mentions in Tunnicliffe's second season at the helm.
Tunnicliffe and the Tornados secured a winning season in the 2021 campaign by rattling off an impressive 7-3 record in conference play to earn a third-place finish in the ASC. Concordia would then go on to win their first tournament match since 2011 and play in the school's second conference playoff semifinal in program history.
CTX notched a quartet of student athletes on the All-ASC team with Patricia Heckendorn (2nd Team), Kaelyn Riley (2nd Team), Kaley Kaspar (3rd Team), Emily Mowrer (3rd Team) and Flaynn Pyterek (Honorable Mention) all making the list.
Concordia Texas maintained momentum in the 2022 season, where they collected another third-place, regular-season finish in the conference and the school's first ever back-to-back ASC semifinals playoff appearance.
Highlighted by their record-setting defense and explosive offensive firepower, CTX landed a program-record eight athletes on the 2022 All-ASC team. Kallie Krenz was the ASC Offensive Player of the Year and was the program's first ever player to be named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region X Team a year ago. The captain ended the season in first place in the conference with 23 points and 10 goals. Catching fire in conference play, Krenz went on a run where she scored in nine of 12 matches.
Fellow first-year forward Alycia Buenaventura garnered ASC Offensive Freshman of the Year honors. The rookie finished with nine goals and 19 points, which was the third most in the conference.
Also collecting All-ASC honors were Falynn Pyterek (1st Team), Patricia Heckendorn (2nd Team), Elisa LeBoeuf (2nd Team), Kaelyn Riley (2nd Team), Addi Taylor (Second Team) and Emma Visser (Third Team).
Tunnicliffe brings 18 years worth of coaching experience to Concordia. Prior to his arrival, he had most recently served as the assistant women's soccer coach of division I Niagra University, where he led recruiting, training sessions and scouting.
It is Tunnicliffe's second time being in the Austin, Texas area. He spent three seasons at the helm of the Huston-Tillotson women's soccer program from 2012-15 and was named the NAIA Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the program to their first ever conference semi-final.
Tunnicliffe has had multiple stops in his collegiate coaching career, serving as an assistant coach at Incarnate Word as well as St. Edward's. He also has experience overseas in the United Kingdom, where he was a recruitment coach for the EPL's Everton Football Club.
He hails from the U.K., earning his bachelors of science in sports studies in 2000 from Staffordshire University. After coaching in the United States, he returned to his home country to earn his masters of science in skill acquisition from Liverpool Hope University in 2016. He has multiple coaching licenses, including a United States Soccer Federation "D", "C" & "B" licenses, NSCAA Goalkeeping Diploma (levels 1 & 2).
